Whether coming directly off the runway or going to castings, one of my favourite looks of all-time is the "Model Off-Duty" look. Sticking to basic wardrobe staples and minimal makeup, the Off-Duty look really embodies what I try to achieve with my overall appearance: polished, yet seemingly effortless (even though I actually try SO hard). Differing from supermodels of the past, the progression of technology has made millennial supermodels more accessible to the public. With the use of various social media platforms, models are able to market themselves (i.e. using Instagram as their portfolio), while being able to easily engage with their followers (source). Not wanting to be pigeonholed as another generic blonde model, Gigi Hadid has used her social media following to her advantage- her ability to connect and relate to her fans has attributed to a lot of her success (source).
In addition to her "All-American" appearance, her accessible and low-maintenance street style has spawned thousands of Pinterest boards and blog posts dedicated to her signature look. With the use of statement coats and sunglasses, Gigi has made athletic gear an acceptable form of clothing outside of the gym. With many of her clients being "Instagram models", celebrity stylist, Monica Rose, believes the key to athleisure wear is adding other pieces from your wardrobe to balance out the look (source). Since I'm not able to wear leggings and a sports bra to lunch without looking like a hot mess, mixing athletic-inspired pieces with dressier items works best for both my ego and personal style. With the bottom pieces having athletic components, I decided to pair both looks with a dressier top and heels- creating a look that has the essence of athleisure, but can also be worn in public.
