Minimalist And Modern: My Toronto Style

Outfit Details: Top: Forever 21, Skirt: Urban Outfitters, Heels: Spring

With Winter temperatures happening seemingly overnight, finding indoor spaces to shoot looks for this site seemed like the next logical step. Being both asthetically- pleasing and functional, Eaton Centre’s newly-designed pedestrian bridge seemed like the perfect venue to test the waters (source). Prior to the re-opening of the pedestrian bridge, Eaton Centre launched a #TorontoStyle campaign to engage with the mall’s consumers, revealing how living in the city has shaped their own personal style (source). While promoting both inner confidence and individual style, the campaign made me think of how living in Toronto has not only influenced my personal style, but pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me overcome my once crippling stage fright. In many ways, the progression of my style is a reflection of the (somewhat) confident person I have evolved into today.

With District 9 being one of my favourite movies, the design and feel of the bridge immediately reminded me of a Sci-Fi movie. Sticking to the futuristic theme, this high-waisted vinyl skirt from Urban Outfitters was the most fitting piece to wear against the bridge’s modern backdrop. Being a statement piece on its own, I decided to pair the skirt with an unassuming black shirt to tone down the look of the outfit, making the skirt less jarring and more versatile.
