Whether you’re a good friend or mere acquaintance, everyone knows I absolutely love this time of year- I’m a firm believer that the holidays help momentarily suppress everyone’s Winter Blues until Spring commences. Not only am I able to spend quality time with my family and friends, but it’s also an excuse to go to town on hor d’ouerves and plates (plural) of beige entrées that I normally don’t consume on a daily basis (I’m still full). While Christmas has come and passed, New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching and is an overpriced, overrated night that many feel sets the tone for the upcoming year.
Considering my style is very simple and minimalist, it should be no surprise that I’m not the biggest fan of bedazzled bodycon New Year’s Eve dresses. With sequin dresses feeling very dated and overdone, I try to look for understated pieces for special occasions, never veering too far away from my everyday style. This mini slip dress I found from Topshop immediately reminded me of the dress Michele wore in ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ (for reference). With the feather detailing and ‘90s silhouette, this dress is the perfect subdued statement piece- not as loud as sequins, but dressy enough for an important event like NYE.
